Yesterday our 2018 marching band season concluded with our best performance of the season in finals at WSU. We finished in 6th place with a score of 77.9. All of the marching band staff are very proud of what the students did this season. They have a lot to be proud of.
The day before we held our awards night and final performance. This year we began awarding the “National School Marching Award” which recognizes outstanding contributions on the field. It honors the musical contributions and dedication of student leaders whose example inspires others. Our first recipient of this award went to one of our senior baritones, Sara Nanny. Great job Sara!
Our end of the year slideshow will be available for purchase starting tomorrow. Please see Mr. Wisswell for an order form. It is our goal to have this completed and ready for distribution the day before winter break begins. It will also be our goal to have the 2019 marching band show reveal at the end of the slideshow!
Thank you students to your commitment to the season, and let’s have a great rest of the 2018/19 school year!
The marching band season is in full swing. With 2 and a half week of camp, 3 football games, and the month of September behind us, the group has really picked up a head of steam going into this week. This is the last rehearsal week before our first competitive competition at Joe Albi Stadium on October 13th. The students are excited and ready to show Spokane what we have been up to the last couple of months. We hope to see many of our family, friends, and alumni there to support their hardworking Blackhawk Marching Band.
We want to wish our percussion ensemble and soloists Josh Sweeney, Lindsay Rogers, and Andrew Samuelson good luck as they head to the WMEA state solo and ensemble contest this Friday and Saturday in Ellensburg, WA.
We will be hosting another color guard clinic this Saturday the 10th from 10am-noon. Grades 6-11 welcome!
We will also be hosting our second round of percussion auditions for the 2018 CHS Marching Band on Saturday from 8am-noon. The goal of this will be to set the drumline and front ensemble for the 2018 fall season.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
On January 13th, we will be hosting an open color guard clinic for any Cheney School District middle or high school student. No experience required. 9am-1pm. Bring athletic clothes, water, and a snack. No fee. ALL experience levels welcome. Grades 6-12.
As the August Band camp season came to a close last night, we were about to see all of the hard work that students were up to the last two and a half weeks. Students previewed their 2017 production to parents, family, friends, and alumni. That was after our annual water balloon fight of course! Please remember that as we enter the school year regular practices occur after school on Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm-5pm. Students will be able to ride the activity bus as long as they have turned in their activity packets and receive their bus pass. Hopefully the students enjoy a couple of days off and are ready to pick up where we left off on Thursday!!!
This year we have decided to restart the mailing of a summer newsletter to help bridge the gap from the final day of school, to the start of camp in early August. These letter have all been addressed, are currently being taped, and will be dropped in the mail tomorrow. Look for these to show up in your mailbox late this week, or early next week! Hope everyone has been enjoying the warm weather. Hopefully it cools off a little bit for camp. At least one could hope...
We hope that everyone is enjoying their summer! Hoopfest cleanup is in the books, prop design is underway with construction beginning on Monday, and more show design commences next week. If you would like your music, please contact Mr. Wisswell at firstname.lastname@example.org and he can get it to you via email.
As an extra fundraiser to get drum slips for our drums this year, the percussion students, are going to be putting on a car wash this summer to help cover the costs. We are in need of donations of your unused or heavily used towels. These can be brought to Mr. Sonnemaker any time between now and the end of the school year.
